FRERES ENGINEERED WOOD NAMED OSU’S DEAN’S AWARD WINNER

LYONS, Ore. May 17, 2024—Oregon State University selected Freres Engineered Wood as the winner of this year’s Dean’s Award for Family Business Leadership. The Excellence in Family Business Awards program, organized by OSU’s College of Business and Center for Family Enterprise, honors the work of Oregon’s family-owned businesses and their impact on local communities.

OSU celebrated Freres Wood and additional award winners at the 2024 Excellence in Family Business Award ceremony at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront on May 7. Company President Rob Freres provided a keynote speech and attended the event alongside Vice President of Operations Kyle Freres and Vice President of Sales Tyler Freres, as well as their spouses and two additional colleagues.

OSU’s College of Business founded the Center for Family Enterprise in 1985 as a resource for Oregon’s family-owned businesses. The center provides education and research to support family businesses across the state and launched the Excellence in Family Business awards program in 1988 to celebrate the innovation and achievements of these businesses.

Freres Wood received the college’s Austin Family Business Award in 1994, which has since been rebranded to the Excellence in Family Business Award. Freres Wood’s two awards, spanning 30 years, are a testament of their longstanding partnership with OSU.

“It takes a lot of perseverance and fortitude to operate in such a volatile industry in Oregon, but we remain committed to be a long-term survivor,” said Rob Freres in his keynote address. “Thank you for recognizing a century of hard work by giving our family the Dean’s Leadership Award.”
